About Me

Discover the stories of your past with professional
genealogy research
I have been helping clients discover their family history for over thirty years. My passion for genealogy drives me to provide the best possible service to you and find the most fascinating tidbits about your family.
Obtaining simple lists of ancestor names and birth & death dates is not fulfilling or exciting for anyone. What I treasure are family history stories. Through stories we connect to our past. They give us a sense of time and place far greater than a simple chart of ancestors. Immigration stories, work histories, family triumphs and tragedies - this is what brings your family history to life and this is what I provide.
I am the retired founder of Books for America - a national non-profit organization which donated over a million books to and built libraries in hundreds of schools, shelters, prisons and many other places.
My wife and I live in historic Alexandria, Virginia with our kids, two incredibly sweet Cavalier King Charles spaniels, and an office filled with genealogy journals, local history books and family trees hanging on the walls.
My Experience
My wife and I have English, Italian, French-Canadian, Native American (Mohegan), Irish, Scottish, German, Polish and Czech ancestry. I have researched exensively in many other countries.
I am the author of the 600+ page genealogy The Hersey Family - Tracing the Descendants of William Hersey of Hingham, MA 1635-Present.
Family Memberships include:

The Jamestown Society
Sons of the American Revolution (in process)
